The Salvation Army Donates to Families in Aurora

The Salvation Army will provide 1,000 free backpacks for families from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 5, at its Aurora Corps, 802 Quari Court. Supplies are limited, so backpacks will be distributed on a first come, first served basis for students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Each backpack will be filled with new school supplies to help ensure a successful school year for students.

“Education is the cornerstone of our nation’s future,” said Lt. Cesar Rodriguez, the newly installed officer at The Salvation Army center in Aurora. “Providing backpacks and school supplies is crucial to ensuring every child has a positive start to the school year.”

The annual Backpack Giveaway program serves families who are struggling financially. While there is no pre-registration, parents are encouraged to bring photo ID to the Backpack Giveaway to register their children, which is necessary to receive a backpack filled with supplies.

More than 133,500 children under the age of 18 – one in nine children – are experiencing poverty in Colorado, according to the 2023 U.S. Census Report. Every year, these and many families struggle to pay for school supplies, which are critical to a student’s success.

Financial contributions to support the Backpack Giveaway in Aurora are welcome. A contribution of $50 provides one supplies-filled backpack for a student in need. Donations may be made online at Donate to Aurora 2026 Virtual Red Kettle.
