Future Leaders Shine at ALG’s Youth Celebration

The Youth Empowerment Celebration, the first event in ALG’s Afrik Impact 2026 lineup, wrapped up in brilliant style on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Denver Botanic Gardens, setting an inspiring tone for the milestone‑packed weeks ahead. The gathering brought together young people from across Colorado’s African immigrant and diaspora communities, showcasing their creativity, confidence, and growing leadership. Designed to equip youth with the tools and encouragement to shape their futures, the well‑attended event featured hands‑on activities, mentorship opportunities, and powerful stories from young leaders already making their mark. ALG’s founder and Executive Director, Papa Dia, delivered a heartfelt presentation on the organization’s history and its enduring commitment to empowerment and belonging.

The evening’s program brimmed with youthful flair and cultural pride—from opening remarks by Ryan and Basheera to a thoughtful keynote by Lily Hakim, moving poetry, and a spirited Angolan dance performance that had the crowd cheering. CU Boulder’s Nigel Daniels presented academic awards, while ALG Program Director Ousman Ba (“Uzi”) honored outstanding leadership and service. The celebration closed on a high note with a lively fashion show by Justin Rogers and a cheerful backpack giveaway led by Tony, sending attendees home inspired, energized, and ready for the next chapter of Afrik Impact.
