By Colorado is revving up for a summer of milestones: America’s 250th anniversary, Colorado’s 150th year of statehood, and right in the midst of all that excitement, one of the state’s most dynamic community organizations is marking a major milestone of its own. The African Leadership Group (ALG) turns 20 this year, and true to its spirit of empowerment and celebration, the organization is doing it in grand, community‑powered style. Mate, we’re calling it a summer of milestones!
Afrik Impact 2026 -Many Roots, One Colorado
As part of its annual flagship initiative, Afrik Impact, ALG has launched a three‑week celebration spotlighting business innovation, cultural pride, youth empowerment, and leadership across Colorado’s African diaspora. And if you know ALG, you know they never do anything halfway; their events are as bold and inspiring as the communities they serve.
The festivities kicked off on Friday, July 24, 2026, with the Youth Empowerment Celebration at the Denver Botanic Gardens, a vibrant gathering that showcased the creativity, energy, and leadership potential of young people from Colorado’s African immigrant and diaspora communities. Designed to equip youth with the skills, confidence, and resources to shape their futures, the event featured interactive sessions, mentorship opportunities, and inspiring stories from young leaders already making a difference. ALG’s founder and Executive Director, Papa Dia, delivered a heartfelt presentation on the organization’s history and its two‑decade journey of impact.
Next up are two powerhouse events scheduled almost back‑to‑back on Thursday, August 6. At 10 a.m., the Museum of Nature and Science will host the Business Summit, featuring five African ambassadors to the United States and Colorado leaders including Phil Weiser, Rep. Jason Crow, Rep. Joe Neguse, and the Denver Mayor. Expect policy discussions, global perspectives, and a rare opportunity to hear how leaders at every level are thinking about Africa’s future.
Later that day, the Investment Forum will bring together individuals already investing on the continent, people with real stories, real numbers, and real insight into feasibility, opportunity, and the next frontier of African markets.
Then comes the weekend Colorado looks forward to every year: Cultural Day Celebration, happening Saturday, August 8 at Levitt Pavilion. Picture concerts, food trucks, vendors, families, dancing, and the beloved Walk of Nations, where representatives from 20 African countries parade in a joyful display of heritage and pride. It’s one of those events where you feel the heartbeat of the community, loud, colorful, and beautifully united.
Afrik Impact wraps up on August 15 with Gala Night, a dazzling evening featuring a VIP reception, community awards across five categories, and the traditional paddle‑raise fundraiser. It’s elegance, celebration, and purpose all rolled into one unforgettable night.
This year’s theme, “Many Roots, One Colorado,” paired with the trending hashtag #BelongingColorado, captures the spirit of ALG’s two‑decade journey: building a home where African immigrants and their families feel seen, supported, and empowered. In a state known for its diversity and shared progress, the message couldn’t be more timely.
