BET Awards 2026: Celebs Show Up and Show Out

The 2026 BET Awards took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California, drawing major figures from the music, film, and sports industries for the annual celebration.

High-profile guests displayed a wide range of fashion styles on the red carpet ahead of the main ceremony. Among the notable arrivals was veteran actress and musician Queen Latifah, who attracted media attention with a distinct ensemble featuring a large black outerwear piece over a floor-length dress.

The entertainment lineup for the evening featured scheduled live performances from prominent music artists, including Cardi B, Doechii, and Kehlani.

American comedian and content creator Druski served as the host for the ceremony. With this appointment, he made history as the youngest master of ceremonies to anchor the event since the launch of the BET Awards.

Lauryn Hill was honoured as the first-ever recipient of the Living Legend Icon Award. It featured a star-studded tribute highlighting Hill’s impact on hip-hop, R&B, and soul music. BET described the new award as a way to recognise pioneers who have shaped the culture and remained true to their craft. BET executive Connie Orlando praised Lauryn Hill as an artist who has consistently shaped moments rather than chased them, saying her influence has inspired generations.

The tribute opened with Ice Cube reflecting on Hill’s career, followed by Wyclef Jean, her former Fugees bandmate, who revisited their time together in the group. A wide range of artists then performed her classic songs, including Doechii and SZA on “Ready or Not,” Tems and Tierra Whack on “Fu-Gee-La,” Doja Cat on “Superstar,” Nas joining Doja Cat for “If I Ruled the World,” Lizzo on “Doo Wop (That Thing),” and Queen Latifah with Common closing the segment with “Lost Ones.” Hill’s children also took part, adding a personal touch to the tribute.

In a surprise moment, Lauryn Hill appeared on stage to perform “Ex-Factor” before accepting the award. During her speech, she spoke about her purpose as an artist, saying she uses music to express love, represent her community, and speak truth even when it is uncomfortable. She also encouraged others to stay committed to meaningful expression, even if it is not always immediately understood.

She ended the night with an emotional performance of “Everything Is Everything,” bringing the celebration of her career to a powerful close.
